Don Camillo Restaurant

Don Camillo is my favourite Italian restaurant in Hobart and I’ve been eating there for many, many years. I love the ambience, fabulous authentic Italian food and attentive service. We had yet another wonderful dinner tonight to celebrate my partner’s birthday and the sparkler on his dessert called forth a chorus of Happy Birthday from lots of the diners. The best!

Without a doubt still the best Italian restaurant in southern tas: 69 years and still going strong Don Camillo Never ever disappointed. 87 yo mum had the veal and I had the spaghetti with scallops with garlic and butter. I also added prawns which I happily paid more for. We shared a panna cotta for dessert and this too was thoroughly delicious. Staff attentive, meal served promptly and hot.

Great restaurant with fab atmosphere. Superb food and great staff.

Some of the dishes particularly the Cotteletta Vinnito were very disappointing. The veal was dry, very minimal vegetables, and too many potatoes. It was also cold despite being on a warm plate. Atmosphere is always lovely.

Don Camillo in Sandy Bay is an institution. The atmosphere is classy intimate classic Italian with red and white check tablecloths. The service is very warm friendly and professional.. the food…. THE FOOD. We started with anti pasta platter and seafood bruschetta.. absolutely delicious. I followed with the pork special in mushroom sauce either baby roasted potatoes and it was stunning. We also had seafood marinara and the Don Camillo famous filets and it was all faultless, tasty, beautifully presented… a final note- make sure you nom ahead if possible. We dined on a rainy dark evening in the middle of school holidays which is usually quiet in sandy bay but the restaurant was packed and as soon as one table left it was immediately filled… all round top top top.

We loved dining here, it was our first time at Don Camillo and won’t be our last! The food, service and ambience was just amazing.

I remember going here as a child with my family and having amazing food. 40 years later it’s still just as amazing! Beautiful food (especially the tiramisu 😋); gorgeous atmosphere. Timeless.

We travelled from Adelaide to revisit a restaurant we witnessed being open and were disappointed with the garlic bread which tasted like damper then the saltimbocca was dry. Also we were rushed in enjoying our dinner
