We had a great experience as always - friendly staff - delicious food especially the Duck pancakes which are a must have when eating st the Bamboo House!
We have now found our replacement for the old Empress of China. Presentation excellent, food excellent, staff excellent. We will be backmany, many times in future.
Brilliant food. Packed out on a noisy Friday evening. Attentive and pleasant staff. I first started going to Bamboo House in the 1970s. Never disappointed.
This long-standing and well -regarded restaurant was my pick for taking an elderly lady to lunch. I booked on line and asked for quiet corner. On arrival, I again asked if our allotted table was a quiet one - the staff seemed non-committal. So at first it was ok and then the restaurant filled up - mainly with men, and it became very difficult to hear our friend with her soft voice. She was wearing hearing aids ...although she said it was all ok, I know they must have just amplified everything. In defence of the restaurant - it does have cloth on tables, and it does have carpet - which makes it better than most. But today the noise transcended all that, not helped by the low ceiling and large areas of glass. There were other areas where we could have been placed - and I should have insisted on that. The very junior staff were efficient, but not attentive to our comfort, and we had to chase them for our needs. They certainly did not have the training or experience to perceive our problem. The food was of good quality and we enjoyed that. Overall - I will not be going there again if it is my decision.
Fantastic food, service started a little blah but warmed up as the evening progressed, overall a great experience and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone
the Food was very good. We had the Peking Duck. The restaurant is very noisy. we just wanted to leave to have a more quiet Environment.
Great location in China Town. Seems to be very popular. Nearly all booked on the normal weekdays. Yummy food, nice service, a little bit pricey. Overall quite good experience.
This was my second visit to the Bamboo House Restaurant, I found it to be most welcoming, the service was excellent, even though they were extremely busy. The food was amazing with many many choices, and served with adequate time to enjoy each course. I absolutely love the way the waiters memorise your order and bring it to you exactly how you asked. Wine was beautiful and they made sure glass was never empty. The staff were very friendly and explained the various dishes well. Pricing was very good, Will definately be going back.
Great food as always and amazing service, waiter was really helpful in giving recommendations and also accommodating our changes as my wife was allergic to some foods
Always the best experience and Peking duck disappoints, a bit too noisy on busy night but that never stops us from going back as the food is amazing
Staff was polite n friendly but slow to response maybe due to full house. Environment was too noisy n loud. Food was just satisfactory as veg stem was hard n overall taste was on the salty side but the time the food served was good.
This is classic Chinese without an eye watering bill Nothing much has changed over the last 25 years including the quality of the food which represents great value for money
The service was pleasant as always, and the food was great I have been many times over the years and Bamboo House has stood the test of time. Thank you for a great dinning experience.
Service was very good as was the food. Very enjoyable evening out. Restaurant is good for families and larger groups. I would recommend this restaurant to friends and family. Will be going back.
Good, High Quality food, but not at an eye watering price. Pricing is not is not bargain basement either - but worth ever penny- I'll be back!
Food is Excellent. worth every penny. Staff can be a little more helpful. If you don't have a drink in the menu, you can accept that you don't have a drink then saying 'sold out' at 12 noon lunch time. Didn't went really well with our group. We requested for the banquet menu, being 5 people with 2 being vegetarian. They didn't accommodate us because they need minimum 4 people for non veg banquet. Didn't understand the logic. Anyway food was good, so everything is ok now.
This is a really lovely restaurant where the staff are very attentive and helpful but not intrusive at all. I would recommend this restaurant to any one looking for good food and ambience
Great food and service. Excellent peking duck and beautiful dumplings with the most tender pastry. New favourite chinese restaurant in Melbourne !! Will defiantly be a regular customer.
Great food, attentive service. The manager was involved in all aspects of the meal, and the experience was Avery positive one. Recommended to all. Fun.
I have had both lunch and dinner at Bamboo House on several occasions over the past few years and have always found it to be excellent. The food and service are of the highest order. Also a special thanks to Ann who is front of house Ann always welcomes you with a smile and is most helpful.
Good service & nice atmosphere. Food is good especially the peking duck and prawns. It is highly recommended for specially occasions. Location is close to chinatown.
Very nice restaurant.. portions are big and service excellent. .. ....... ... ... .. ... ... .., ... ... ... .., ... .. .. ...
Best most consistent Chinese ( Asian Food). There is a group of us that dine there regularly. On Average once a week. Service is exceptional
As with other visits to Bamboo House, the Peking duck never disappoints. We always look forward to our next trip to Melbourne for this reason.
Outstanding venue with fantastic food. Thank you Ann and team for feeding us! It is a no fuss event that you manage for us while we focus on business dealings. Thanks - of course we will be back!!
Bamboo House always represents great value. Although not cheap it provides a standard of food and service equal to the best with a drinks list, including drinks bay the glass, to match. Overall a terrific dining experience.
I have always found the food excellent and consistent. The service is attentive and efficient. Ann Louey certainly knows how to make you feel welcome and always has great menu suggestions. We are regular customers and have never been disappointed.
Great dining experience at Bamboo House. Very busy and noisy but we were moved to a quieter table when we mentioned this. Service is excellent, attentive but not intrusive. Half serve of Peking duck is succulent and tasty and served all ready to eat. Sweet and sour pork was very tasty with fresh light batter. Wine list is comprehensive and reasonably priced compared to other good restaurants. Our go to Chinese restaurant whenever we are in Melbourne. Highly recommended.
Food was excellent and the service was very good as well. Very helpful with gluten free meals. A bit noisy but overall a very good night.
A top night - just some rowdy customers made it difficult to converse. The food was of high quality, as was the service. The duck is always good.
My friend and I were very pleased with the quality of the food and the service of the staff. The Shanghai dumplings were so authentic that I believe I haven’t had anything similar in Melbourne before.
This restaurants always has great food and the service is excellent. One of the best Chinese restaurants in Melbourne. Do yourself a favour and pay them a visit.
Very happy with the food and service. Little things always make the experience better, such as adding an extra dumpling to an order of 3 so that the two of us don't have to share one! thanks so much
Excellent food but we booked online so on arrival were told we had 15 minutes to order before kitchen closed. What was going to be a relaxed meal was a rushed experience instead.
Delicious sweet and sour soup, perfectly spicy🌶 . Sweet and sour chicken portion was huge and very filling. Chicken with garlic was also huge - had to take half home. A couple could easily share one of the latter two with some rice and leave the table full. Ginger chicken just the right serving portion and yummy. Approx $50 pp with a glass of wine. Waiters attentive, service with a smile. A restaurant to put on your list
Had a great time. Very close to the theatre. The food was excellent. They catered for my children and they were very friendly and helpful.
Top value and consistently good food Best Peking Duck in Melbourne
Food was amazing but was dissapointed with the service in the end. We noticed everyone around us had been given wet towels to freshen up with and we were completely forgotten. And the service was excellent to start with until it got busier and again we were then basically forgotten about.
Food was excellent. Service great. A huge thanks. Will dine again. Peking duck is awesome. Really enjoyed the oysters and scallops. Can’t wait to go back
Some say the best dumplings in town - this is a firm favourite of mine and my colleagues. The food is always outstanding and the atmosphere great.
The service was excellent, the wine was very nice and the food was great! We had a lovely evening and the Birthday desserts were very thoughtful. We would come more often but it is very expensive. We had a lovely evening and we tell all our friends this is the best Asian food in Melbourne. Thank you.
Great food - as a long term client my observation was that the service was not as good as in the past. Will return to see if it was just our luck on the night..
Rated as a 6. Always very good, attentive staff, beautiful food and the table and room we were in was very good. Good to catch up with old friends, too.
Very enjoyable. Great service and food. Diced beef fantastic as was the Peking duck. First time there and will definitely go back there. Good ambience.
The service was great and the meals were lovely. All staff friendly and offer good advice. All 10 of us agreed it was a good night out.
Rude and surly waiters, noisy environment, poor ventilation and cold. Peking Duck was good, otherwise a disappointing experience! Not really the special birthday atmosphere we were looking for. Will try the Flower Drum
Bamboo House has to be one of the best Chinese Restaurants in Melbourne. The food is excellent. We started with Assorted Dim Sum which were delicious, Pekin Duck was excellent, meaty pieces of duck, crispy skin and minimal fat. Sliced beef with shallots was tasty and our friends ordered a combination noodle dish which was okay but not something we would usually order, a little bland for us, but they loved it. My husband tells me the wine was reasonably priced. Service was friendly, quick and waitress helpful. We are looking forward to our next visit to Bamboo House.
Went out with a bunch of mates for a long lunch. Food and service were absolutely outstanding. If you enjoy Chinese food you should definitely visit this restaurant.
Quality food and excellent atmosphere. Bamboo House has been there over 20 years but quality has not changed at all. A bit pricy so depends what's your occasion is.
Great restaurant serving the very best of Chinese cuisine. Nothing is too much for staff who provide excellent service. Suitable for any occasion from casual to fine dining
