Great food but we booked in for a 40 th Birthday No staff acknowledged the celebration no dessert no special touch . Great place fantastic cocktails just not alot to pick from for happy hour .
We arrived and headed to the bar and unfortunately our arrival experience was terrible... Lots of staff floating around picking up glasses and cleaning glasses and only one person making drinks. It was happy hour and was very slow service... they ran out of tequila and some beers... not a good look for a Friday night at 7pm. Upstairs dinner was lovely, but again the service to order dinner and drinks was very slow. By 10pm the place was empty and a closed sign on the front door, weird to see that at a bar on a Friday night. Would I go again? Probably not.
Good good - place was a bit loud the tapas was very tasty and the eye fillet cooked well. The beef cheek however was bland and sinuey
Service very slow Staff somewhat disinterested Mains arrived cold You get your own drinks from the bar and that person is equally uninterested in doing more than the minimum No longer on my list of must go to places locally Has deteriorated since my last visit
Great service, good food reasonably priced. Loved the many gluten free options as my mum is a celiac. Salmon with gnocchi had fantastic flavours and the serving size of the salmon was huge.
We had a lovely window seat and staff were attentive. HoweverMusic ruined dinner bad singing and Ladies were brought up to sing. Lamb was cooked to perfection.
Going back for sure. Loved the menu, atmosphere and service. Nearby car parking was free but I recommend getting in early for a parking spot.
my first impression was shabby in a quaint way, staff was attentive and very pleasant, although not a full house for Friday lunch it was still incredibly noisy and impossible to have a conversation, they must be doing something right as the tables turned over frequently with diners having the $10 express lunch, we also ordered the $10 sirloin with chips, my medium rare was well cooked but flavour was good and what to expect for $10
Happy Hour cocktails are a treat. Food and service was very good. Filler Mignon and crab ravioli were delicious.. My friend had the wagyu burger and rated it highly
Always have great food choice and lunch specials offering variety of menu for everyone including vegetarian They have fast , consistent and excellent service , always happy to bring new guests to the establishment
The food was very good and enjoyed by everyone and we didn't have to wait long. However the veg was delayed and the waitress forgot to get our coffees at the end. Live music was too loud and limited conversation on Sunday night.
Food is great. Highly recommended. Lamb cutlets are yum. Cocktails are ok. Had the espresso martini. Service is semi ok. Will definitely be going back again.
Nice environment but food was slow & then arrived all at once. Table to small! Fresh veg was greasy & a bit disappointing. Prawns were great . Overall average experience
Great ambience, Good food, great location. We had a good time and we Will visit again. Portion sizes for lunch specials a bit small but tasty.
Nice place and atmosphere. Slowish but friendly service. Food of good quality and size just right. Reasonable value for money. Good selection from tapas, mains and desserts
Friendly staff and prompt service. A little live music happening in the corner - always nice. Food was up to expectations. Have always liked the historic feel of the venue
Food is great, and the ambience of the restaurant is very cosy and warm. I've been twice now though and both times the service has been very disorganised and slow. It's a shame because it detracts from everything else
Beautiful food, yet the lobster ravioli was quite rich- next time I'll get the entree size. My dinner mates also ate only half their risottos. $10 cocktails between 4-7pm were an awesome way to start!
The restaurant was understaffed and we waited for over an hour for our main course. There was also a long wait for the drinks order and the lady at the next table had to wait 45 minutes for a glass of wine to arrive! In general the restaurant was full of disgruntled customers. The food was fine.....nothing amazing, but a good mid week option.
We came here for team lunch and food is always great $10 lunch deal has lots of choices and best deal Service is great too, very customer orientated
We come here for team lunch and always able to make reservations without any problem Food is great, offering variety of choices for everybody $10 lunch deal is a bonus
Great night food great as well as service Family friendly and children's menu We had a table for eight with plenty of room Nice little bar to have a drink if you are waiting on people
The food was excellent but it was one of those stinking hot nights in Sydney and the air conditioning couldn't cope. We will go back though as the food was worth it and the staff were lovely.
Food and service were great but the place had no reservation as this site and app are useless and should never be used for anything.
What's not to love at this place! The food is delicious and there's something for everyone (including the fussiest of eaters like me). Will definitely be going back again!
Nice place, food was good, staff a bit underwhelming we thought. Could have been a bit more welcoming and friendly - seemed like they didn't want to be there!
The food was okay. I got a dessert which was a bit overpriced for what it was - the service was good however. Good place to go for an after work drinks with colleagues.
We were a party of 5 and all enjoyed the meal chosen, the restaurant has a lovely ambiance about it, very relaxing with its decor.
Food ok but not definitely not wow. The Menu was fairly limited and not much choice for vegetarians. Attentive staff and a good wine list. probably wouldn't rush back.
Very lovely old style pub feel with a big menu variety and great lunch specials. Terrific ambience. Very homely. Attentive staff. Very good value overall.
Great food, well cooked and a varied menu. Also good wine choices with long "Happy Hour" from 4pm until 7pm. Ambient atmosphere in an unusual building and with friendly, competant wait staff.
Good suburban restaurant , central location and plenty of parking in the shopping centers . The food is tasty but it's just that ! Not a great presentation and if you want anything extra , sauce for the lunch special $10 steak , you need to pay . The staff anew very attentative and polite . Overall a. Ice experience in the hearth of Randwick ! Do recommend it !
We ordered different mains and all of us enjoyed our dish .Nevertheless, the portions were quite small. The desserts are quite average, again the serving size are small.
Ate there for a birthday meal. $10 lunch deal was good value, and it's available every day including weekends! Music was wonderful. A lovely little place to go eat.
quick service for lunch. the price is right for the food you get. Best to book if you have a bigger crowd as always busy.
Great value lunch and friendly staff, we would definitely return in the future. We had a large group and they looked after us very well
My guest and myself were very disappointed with the food at the cook house. The quality used to be very good, but they must have changed the chef and the management? It was a Sunday night and the restaurant was quite empty. There were 5-6 tables (inlcuding ours) and a few others at the bar. Most of them ordered only drinks I think, couldn't see any food on their table. We ordered salon sashimi as our starter and what came out was a poorly presented and foul smelling 4 chunks of salmon on a puke of shaved daikon. The main took forever to come out and yet again nothing special (mine was a garden salad). I was going to have salmon as my main, but they've ran out - a blessing in disguise perhaps?! The saving grace for the night was the young man who served us. He was polite and patient, he was the only one running the floor on the night. I'm certain that he knew we weren't happy with the food, especially when we returned 99% of the starter back...I will not go back to the cook house again unless they pull their socks up.
Had run out of a few meals by the time we ordered (booking at 7pm) but overall food and service was fine. Sat upstairs. Nice atmosphere.
Good service at a convenient location, however parking can be a bit tricky. We enjoyed the tapas and all were delicious. Good happy hour cocktails too!
Atmosphere was great and relaxed. Staff were friendly and attentive. Food could be good but is trying to hard to be fancy, turn it down a notch to just be more like up market pub food instead.
The service was extremely slow and the only 2 wait staff that appeared to be working on the night were very busy. It took a considerable amount of time to be served and asked what we would like to drink and order as far as food goes. We also had to take into consideration the length of time it would take to order more drinks when we wanted to. The food was quite good when we received it, however i would not recommend tapas if you want a proper dinner there.
We were a party of 5. Two in their 80s, one in early 50s. one in 40s and one age 9. All 5 of us were happy with meals ..... impressive!!! and good service to boot! Gotta rate it 10/10.
Food was great, service amazing even though there was only one guy doing the upstairs bar, taking food orders and delivering same. He coped beautifully and was so quick and attentive. We had an lovely night - we are an older couple 60+.
Good service good food cosy environment! What else you need ! Came with friends foe book club meeting, and needed a relatively quite place, and surprisingly Cookehouse met all our requirements , but may be it was quite because Monday night is not busy. Overall great place to eat drink and chat
The food was great but the service was very slow and the waiters were not very professional. We had to ask for our bottle of wine to be opened , and to check on our food as we were served food one hour after arrival.
Lovely place, pleasant staff, nice steak! We go all the time and feel very welcome. Sometimes the steak is a bit hit and miss but recently it's been cooked great and always tasty!
The menu has a good range of options for all tastes. The staff are friendly. Good location. A good dining experience with family or friends.
This is the most successful incarnation of a food place in the splendid old sandstone building on Belmore Road. Gastro pub with the odd arm chair, stressed furniture, a bar that can be sat at (or near) and a reasonably varied menu. Not particularly cheap but not so outrageous. Food OK. I had the confit of duck leg ragout - hint of chilli and good portion. Young Henry is the beer to drink.
Great food, great service and great ambience - thank you for a lovely evening, we will definitely be visiting again in the very near future
I have been to the cookhouse before and always the service has been top notch. I really felt that the service was bad and we were served by people who didn't have a clue or didn't care.
