Thai Pothong - Newtown

One would struggle to find better service at an ultra high end restaurant anywhere in the world, service is attentive, genuine and well timed. The food has always been full of character and flavour here and having not been to Thai Pothong for 7 years (moved to Melbourne where it’s impossible to find good Thai food) I was hoping the standards had been maintained. I was delighted with the the food. Flavours danced in my mouth, beautifully balanced between salty spicy sweet in all the dishes.

The best Thai restaurant in Sydney. Meals are delicious served quickly and staff are great. As always we ordered bitter leaf prawn for entre - favourite entre. Just tried the banana flower salad, it was yummm.

Great service from friendly wait staff. I enjoyed the gin whole fish. Was cooked perfectly. Have tried several dishes previously & never been disappointed at Thai Pathong.

We were ini a bit of a hurry as we were going to the theatre (in Newtown). We explained this and were served quickly and were out the door in good time...and the food was great.

Excelent service! Food was amazing as usual and they also gave us a complementary dessert for my anniversary. Thy took the usual picture and sent it us!

I am Indian with deep appreciation of good food. Very impressed with the recommended starters- chilli scallops, beetle leaf prawns and sugarcane chicken. The chicken spring rolls, tamarind tofu and satay chicken were average. The mains- yellow chicken stir fry was chewy and flavourless. The masamman lamb was sweetish and average. When the staff saw that we barely ate our yellow chicken stir fry they inquired the reason, and were kind enough to strike it off the bill. The service was good and the ambience nice. Will definitely go back for the starters!

Amazing restaurant with full house on weekday. Service was excellent. Food was great. We hope to return some day although it is unlikely we can do so.

We dined at Thai Pothong- Newtown as it was written up in Trip Advisor as number 5 in all the restaurants in Sydney. The staff were very friendly and coped with a very busy evening. My wife had the Betel Leaf Prawns which were delicious. I had the Thai Fish cakes which were a little bit chewy but tasty. We then had the Barramundi Curry and the BBQ Pork. Barramundi was very tasty however, probably could have chosen a better dish than the pork. We were given a complimentary dessert of coconut ice cream which was very kind of them. Definitely worth a visit.

Great service with great staff and delicious food! WE were there for a birthday celebration the staff gave us a birthday present and sang birthday song for us!

A very tasty banquet followed by a nicely presented desert and good service. Big restaurant but was not noisy. Like how they offered to box the leftovers before we asked as enjoyed them also.

Thai Pothong is a great restaurant. Staff are vey friendly, the service is great with fantastic food. It gets very busy, so you do need to book. Overall a great dining experience.

Always a great feed, lots of choices , good atmosphere and the staff are very friendly. Highly recommended, but make sure you book a table, especially on weekends

The food was very good. We had cashew nut chicken and pad se yew. I also had a tasty mocktail. The service was friendly and helpful. I would return.

Quality food and service. Many vegan options. Great place to go for special occasions. Paid the bill with cash and got some vouchers to spend in their gift shop. Got a massager.

Great environment and food. Staffs were nice and friendly. Will definitely go back again. Felt sorry for the staffs that they had to sing 7 birthday song for each table celebrating while we were there.☺

The food was great, especially the entrees. We got the Betel Leaf Prawns and Rice Noodle Parcels. The betel leaf prawns is a must try! The mains were good and so were the cocktails. Service was also really good. The restaurant had a great atmosphere. We had a very enjoyable night.

The restaurant was absolutely packed on Valentine's day and had an excellent banquet menu. This made everything move fast and very smoothly. We enjoyed some great dishes and drinks and the staff are wonderful. It's been a few years since we've been to Thai Pothong, but it's refreshed memories of one of the tastiest and best run restaurants in Newtown.

Delicious food, attentive service and consistent quality every time. Pricey compared to Newtown Thai, which is also delicious and consistent every time but has a smaller menu.

Food is always perfect and timed well, a great place to have a group dinner or just a couple, serving time is no difference , staff always friendly and fantastic .

Really friendly service and amazing food - BBQ Beef and Barramundi Curry both amazing. Were a little bit late and they were very accomodating. Quite noisy/busy but not overwhelmingly so.

The Food and services was very nice as usually but I was dissapointed with my my favourite dish the beef salad which the beef didn’t taste like a meat.

Nothing special was done for my mums bday which is not what I was expecting from Thai Patong. Previously something special would be done at the end

This is not the first time I have dinned at thaipathon and yet I keep on going there coz the food are delicious and the staff they’re so friendly & professional. Rating this restaurant seriously 5 stars not enough I personal give them 10 stars

We went as a family to celebrate a 17 year olds birthday and we had an excellent evening. Although the restaurant is large noisy and busy we had an enjoyable time.Food good ,service attentive,however,dishes in some cases are served very quickly. You need to dictate how quickly you want the dishes served.Staff made it an enjoyable birthday experience.

Great Thai restaurant. Wide variety on the menu. Good food, great service. My wife has many allergies and she finds it hard to get appropriate food at restaurants. She got a great meal.

The food is the absolute best Thai I've ever eaten. The service is outstanding. The price is excellent. The only problem is that I live in Brisbane and can only come here when I'm visiting Sydney.
