Thai Pothong - Newtown

Very friendly and obliging staff. Kept topping up our water and checking in-but not too much. Food was fantastic if a little pricey. For example $3 each for steamed rice meant that we paid $12 for the bowl. BYO was a touch dear as it is based on $3/head, meaning that our $9 bottle cost $21. The atmosphere was great, fab decor, comfortable seats and not overly noisy as the tables are well spaced. I am lactose intolerant so I noticed that coconut milk was being replaced with dairy which is not meant to happen in a quality Thai restaurant. Overall we had a great night and will be going back...make sure you book.

Lovely food, excellent, friendly service and all at a reasonable price. Very strongly recommended. We were a party of five, with two children, and were delighted to be part of such a lively scene on a Sunday evening.

Another delicious lunch at Thai Pothong, ginger scallops for entree plus chicken rice and stir-fried pork for main. The mocktail was also good. Will be back again soon. :)

Fantastic Thai Restaurant where awesome service is on the menu. Our waiter Bobbie was fantastic, we had the banquet and a few bottles of wine and this came to $55 per head for a table of 5.

It was our 2nd visit, and we were once again not disappointed. They have Amazing food, excellent service. Even better hat they have gluten free and vegan options as most places don’t have anything as substantial! Will DEFINITELY be coming back again!

Service and food were both excellent. I had my aged disabled mother with me and they really looked after her. We've been going there since it opened and the quality has always remained the same.

The restaurant gave our table away after only being 10 mins late, but overall service was attentive and friendly and overall the food was delicious!!

Always nail it. Very few restaurants I’d even brave with two kids under three but these guys are just so efficient and friendly. Food is always amazing.

The staff gave great suggestions on gluten free dishes and the food came out perfectly timed. The mango sorbet is an excellent pallet cleanser after the spicy chili tofu and red curry.

We were a group of 7 people. All meals were tasty and the service was good and fast. Had a nice surprise with the birthday ice cream!

Very good service but the food quite sweet, the actually Thai traditional should be hot and spicy. Good thing is the gift voucher back after pay cash. Overall are ok.

Interesting atmosphere but not the best service (ordered Chicken Spring Rolls and got Chicken Skewers, ordered two cocktails and only got one) and definitely not the best Thai you can have in Newtown. Probably not going to rush back there.

Amazing food and amazing service. A lot of options for Coeliacs (outside just the Thai curried), which was great. We ordered food to take home and eat the following day as we loved it so much. My partner is a chef and he was amazed at the speed of service. The staff were all so friendly and attentive. Overall a great experience!

The Thai Pothong is our favourite restaurant. The staff are kind and courteous and always happy and helpful. We always have our birthdays there and enjoy the singing and the sparklers and ice cream. Always a joy to be there. And the food is the best.

Our experience at the Thai Pothong - Newtown was very positive. The food was the best Thai food we have had in Sydney and the setting is very pleasant. The restaurant is large and bustling and noisy - though not unpleasantly so. The service was great and there was special attention paid to the children - who were fussed over with colouring crayons, balloons and special dishes that arrived early. The free icecream for those who ate all their meal (and the one who did not) was also a treat. This was a lovely setting and the overall experience was fine. We will definitely go back again.

The foods are fabulous and the staff are very nice The location is bit difficult to find the parking, it takes us a while to find the parking nearby.

The restuarant is a little too loud, but the service is incredible. Theres a bunch of waiters, always stopping by to fill up water before I even get a chance to fill it up. Food is great

Thai Pothong is a wonderful, vibrant, lively restaurant. The food is consistently good – no matter how busy they get – and the service is warm, friendly and efficient. They are really good hosts for special occasions and I highly recommend them if you are having a birthday or other celebration.

Attentive service and authentic food, if only it was quieter but I guess everyone know this place so can’t be hope. I highly recommend this place and will return.

An excellent Mother's day lunch. The banana flower salad is very interesting & clearly very popular. All dishes were well executed and service was prompt and efficient. Not cheap but good value given the quality of the food. This institution has plenty of life to go!
