We are regulars at the Okami restaurants, this was our first time at the Narre Warren store. Service was good as always, the food was not good unfortunately, the sushi and Nagari tasted old and not fresh, it also had skin on the sashimi which wasn’t pleasant, everything else was also just sub par. We eat at Okami about 2 times per week so we will continue to support but we will not eat at the Narre Warren store again.

It's not a quiet restaurant but it's not supposed to be! It's busy and busting, and yet things are well organised. You're not sat in the lap of the person next to you and you're not knocking chair backs together - this is something a lot of places do poorly but the this place does it really well. Busy but not cramped, I felt very comfortable and I'm a big guy so I really appreciate this factor. The food was all well prepared and well presented, and everything looked just like the pictorial examples on the menu. I highly recommend the prawn gyoza and I found I had to eat more of them than I had intended because they were impossible to resist. The mushroom salad, which is just segments of oyster mushrooms really, was great - the texture was spot on, very firm, almost meaty. Diners should be aware, though, that much of the food available is cold or only warm, not big hot steaming dishes of things. This is the proper nature of the cuisine, not a fault of the chef! Service was friendly and it was never difficult to catch a server when you needed one, even though the place was full to capacity. Of the approximately six million dishes we ordered, only two needed to be chased (having possibly been omitted or maybe given to the wrong table) but that was no big problem because waiting times for the food were more than reasonable. As for value for money - impossible to fault. Unless you've got the stomach of a mouse, you will find excellent value for your money, and if, like me, you are a human vacuum cleaner for food then you will find this place to be an unbelievable bargain. It's really quite remarkable. Finally, the place was perfectly clean, and the staff were friendly. For a restaurant to function so well when it's so busy is really a great achievement and, as I'm sure I've made clear, I was most impressed. Would I recommend this restaurant? Yes, without hesitation.

since I got back to Australia I have been counting the days until I can get back to Japan. in the meantime Okami is a great place to take the edge off. my main complaint is they don't have melon fanta... but than again I can't find that anywhere in Melbourne so it's not really something I can fault them for. go check it out if you get the chance.
