Were not asked for a drinks order and were ignored by the waitress for a very long time! Then after ordering a $50 bottle of sparkling wine, she poured it into an ordinary wine glass, not a flute! Queues for any food were enormous all night! Gnocci was not made correctly at all and was almost inedible! For a 5 star hotel, it was atrocious! Will never go back!
Excellent choice and variety of offerings. Helpful staff and great ambiance.
All buffet breakfast food was cold, hotel tired need refurb
Excellent food , excellent service we will come back again, thanks.
Disappointed that the sea urchin was not fresh. Service always very good though.
Staff were great thank you we will Capone a gib
Very good buffet, lovely food and views to river Yarra. However did not receive the birthday cupcake, after notifying that it was a 50th birthday. Wines a bit pricey.
Advertised good looked nothing like what was available. Although we had a lovely dinner.
We took one of our granddaughters to the Melba as a treat on her 18th. birthday - we got the treat to see the happiness on her face and share the excitement that she experienced - a perfect outing to suit the occasion.
Waiting on my mixed drink for 15mins while my partner received her wine within 5.
We had been soooo looking forward to having the buffet dinner and to our disappointment l must say never again. We frequently eat dinner at crown and sorry to say l wish we had again after eating at your resturant. Sorry but no good.
Great food, relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely go there again. What a hidden gem.
In terms of food, it is the usual Melba buffet fare. Standard of service is great with frequent plate changes. The Chinese New Year fare was greatly promoted with lobster noodles as the headlining dish. However it was a small portion in the Bain Marie, with only claws and heads of small crayfish sized lobsters. No tails or flesh. Several diners expressed their disappointment pretty openly. Noodles were dry. Average expectations, but even that were barely met.
Food was poor in relation to previous visits. All of the guests tried the crayfish Thermidor without finding any crayfish among the dish, just shells filled with sauce. The duck pancakes were pre-made and put on plate but dried out before being consumed, previously, each one was served as made to the guest. Overall, no where near as enjoyable as previous visits.
Overall, the buffet and service are very decent. Staff are helpful and professional.
Seafood was not fresh. I went because of the special seafood for Chinese New Year. But, the seafood was disappointing as they’re not fresh.
Great food and fantastic service. Love M n M naans
Since dinner was billed as a lunar new year celebration, the ambience in the restaurant was a bit of a let down. In general the Chinese food was a let down too, roast pork was too dry, the Chinese stir fried noodles (char Kway teow and mee goreng) tasted so sweet; just too much sugar in the sauce. The Indian, western and dessert offering was good. Seafood offering was good too. Japanese was good too
Staff are friendly. Food are nice. With more variety of food
Excellent service, friendly helpful staff, great range of fresh quality food choices. We all enjoyed our lunch and look forward to our next opportunity to visit this restaurant.
We enjoyed the buffet lunch: a wide selection of food to choose from and attentive friendly service from the moment we arrived. We chose a wine package- our waitress kept our glasses topped up at all times. We were surprised & appreciated the small cake gift box for our special Birthday occasion which made the day more special.
We have dined here few times before - long time back it was great restaurant with great food, great service and great atmosphere. This time all I can honestly say is - huge disappointment ! $75 per head for lunch (drinks extra) is a lot of money and for this price I expect everything to be up to scratch. Sadly my expectations were dismissed when we arrived. There was a queue to go in, staff took their time letting us in, it was almost 5 minutes past the opening time when we were let in finally. 5 minutes may not sound much but with this type of eateries I would expect a prompt, on time service. The waitress was friendly and polite and that’s where everything ends unfortunately. Prawns were small, this size I can buy for $20 per kilo in a supermarket, with black heads, not appealing at all. Oysters were nice. Roasted veggies were absolutely unacceptable. They were soggy, overcooked and NOT freshly prepared. Steamed veggies dry and unattractive. Pork belly looked beautiful but was completely without taste, the best part of it was crackling which was perfect. Chicken not bad but very plain, couldn’t taste any seasoning. Green lettuce ( cos lettuce) was appalling - old, already brown in colour, mixed with some of the fresh salad leafs. Loved nice fresh radicchio leafs. I’ve ordered garlic prawns with veggies, spring onions and shiitake mushrooms at live cooking station. That meal was the tastiest, ignoring the fact that Chef didn’t add any mushrooms or garlic as I requested but I couldn’t be bothered to complain. Desserts average, had some fresh fruit salad, wanted to add some vanilla ice cream but it wasn’t available , just strawberry and chocolate flavour on offer. $19 for a glass of wine. So what can I say? Apart from that I’ll won’t go to Melba anytime soon and I don’t recommend it to anyone. It sad to say this but unfortunately I don’t have any other solid foundation for a better comment.
Loved the seafood nice atmosphere good if you are hungry!
The dinner wasn’t that elaborate as I had expected. Some of the Indian dishes were bland and lacked soul. There is not much in there for vegetarians. Even the soup had fish sauce and I couldnt taste it. The only saving grace were the desserts and the cocktail. Overall not worth it for the price we pay. Will not visit again.
The food was fantastic but the staff made the date - just wonderful
Amazing food and was definitely worth the money. Loved it!
Our first visit. Will return on very special occasions only.
The staff were amazing. Thank you so much, I couldn't fault the impeccable service. Highly recommended. you should be proud of your people!
I was disappointed to find out that there was a charge on the credit card. A big popular and expensive restaurant to be charging you to use your credit card is disgusting.
Friendly and professional service; everyone made me feel welcomed. Good quality food.
Always a pleasure going to Melba. The food is always delicious.
Plenty of food in the buffet of good quality. Only let down was the Tempura Prawn, (Thick gluggy batter) and the Duck pancake, (dry). Service was good and not intrusive. Beer was slightly overpriced, but to be expected. Wine by the glass or bottle was ridiculously priced. I paid $75 for a bottle of Chandon Brut NV sparkling wine. That was the cheapest one. It's a good wine I've bought before, but retails for $20 to $30. That's a %150+ markup, that's unjustifiable! To add insult to injury, they charge you a credit card surcharge! There's better restaurants for less money.
Everyone enjoyed the lunch and service especially the great desserts
There weren’t a lot of variety for value. Some of the dishes were ordinary. Great customer service and nice location.
It was such a great experience and what a variety of food. My husband and I will plan another time there. Thank you
The service was great. Our waiter, John, was fantastic! Thank you John!
Fabulous food and so much to choose from. We will be back.
Very much value for money if you enjoy seafood. Lots of fresh seafood and a very good range too.
Great food and lovely place. Worth the money for a special occasion. Would have been nice to have some new cutlery at times.
Amazing food and service. Well presented and memorable. Sashi bar was our favourite.
Over priced , desert selection poor compared to other premium buffets.
It was a perfect night excellent service will definitely recommend
Beautiful venue, excellent service, great food and great value for money.
Great service! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their day, we will be back AGAIN!
Fabulous way to eat and drink on a lovely afternoon.
Indian food was awesome especially the butter chicken and the naan bread counter
I feel there was less options then previous times I have been. And the deserts tasted terrible. Very sad experience
Great seafood and delicious desserts! Really liked the baked crayfish with cheese and oysters Kilpatrick.
